What city, state or town do you live in or near?

Have you ever explored your own hometown? Is your local area known for; food, museums, architecture, hiking or bike trails, parks, wildlife or historical preservation? If you’re sticking to a budget, but still need a change of scenery this summer, try exploring your surrounding areas.

Make a list of things that make you happy, relaxed and feel like your true self again.

Think about what you would like to explore on this local getaway? What type of experience do you need to calibrate your mind and body so you can return to your normal life refreshed? Does this adventure have a soundtrack you can hear already? Will you be documenting your adventure with photos, video and or journaling?

These are just a few questions to answer in order to plan just the trip that will fill your soul with everything you need. Safe travels!

A good traveler has no fixed plans and has no intent on arriving.

Create Your Vacation

Time to plan your perfect vacation! Think big, then work your way back down to a similar yet doable plan that will fit within your timeframe and budget. Always set a little fun money aside for a special experience or an unexpected adventure that may arise. If you’re traveling with a partner or a group of friends, schedule some alone time for yourself. It’s okay to part ways for a little excursion of your own. It may actually be great to plan independent adventures to then meet up afterwards and share your experiences. It’s important to grow as individuals to grow together as a couple or group of friends. Happy planning!

Weekend Design & Wellness Project

Create an itinerary of your dream vacation, staycation or retreat. Block time for organic fun and unexpected adventure. Create a non-negotiable budget that you’re comfortable with a cushion for unforeseen or emergency expenses. This amount will vary based on the destination and mode of transportation. If the budget is tights consider day trips in your own city or state. Every state has something beautiful to offer and chances are that you have explored your entire state. It can be fun to be a local-ish tourist. Maybe dust off an old functioning camera and capture views in a new light. Keep a journal of each day’s adventures with a log of restaurants and favorite meals. This can be very helpful when you’re passing along recommendations to someone else. Finally, bring your wellness practices on your trip to stay present in each moment and to keep your body and mind aligned.

When the feeling of disconnect starts to set in, it’s important to have some quick creativity exercises to snap back into your motivated self. Creativity exercises remove blocks, reduce stress and restores confidence in your intuition.

3 Creativity Exercises

  • Listen to Theta wave music to get into a flow state of mind where tasks are completed with ease and calmness

  • Blindfolded yourself and draw something. Think of an image like a shoe, a pencil or a fan and try to trace the vision in your mind onto the paper. No peaking. This will help to let go of hyper judgement and performance anxiety. The result can be funny and even surprisingly identifiable.

  • Dance or move your body in a fluid manner similar to interpretive dance. This may look and feel strange, however it is an incredible release of stagnate energy in the body. Do what your body allows without overtaxing joints and muscles. You’ll find your movement just be patient.
