Fear + Creativity

Do you think you’re a creative person? If you just said no, then you need to keep reading. If you said yes, then keep reading and then forward this to someone who needs to hear/believe that they ARE creative.

Sometimes being creative for a design, editing, or event planning project can bring on overwhelm and anxiety. Just thinking of an art project to decorate your home can be daunting. This is a great time to read or listen to the book “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield.

Everyone is creative in unique ways which is a great thing since we are always looking for the next and the newest. Reinvention is a great place to start when it feels like all the “new” ideas or designs have already been done. Take a piece of outdated furniture for example, say a velvet side chair or a brass 80’s floor lamp. Look solely at the shape of the item and reimagine it in a different color, your favorite color. An old piece of furniture has great bones and has the potential to look like a completely new item with the right color or upholstery. This is simple and low cost exercise to get your creativity ignited and flowing for the brilliant new ideas that are waiting to burst out of you.

Start before you’re ready. Good things happen when we start before we’re ready.

Cinnamon Pine Cone Recipe

Here is a simple and inexpensive way to make natural cinnamon scented pine cones for the fall and winter seasons. There are two natural ways to add scents for pine cones, with eatable cinnamon spice or cinnamon essential oil.

After collecting pine cones from your yard or a park, rinse them well to remove any insects and for extra precaution place them in the oven on a cookie sheet at 200 degrees for 30-40 minutes.

Once the pine cones have cooled from the oven, brush on the cinnamon essential oil with a small paint or foam. Place the pine cones in a zip lock bag for up to one week.

If you’ve chosen to use cinnamon spice instead, brush on a thin layer of craft glue to each pine cone then, sprinkle on the cinnamon spice. Allow the cones to dry completely before decorating with them.

Enjoy your naturally scented and homemade seasonal home decor!

Create a fall picnic this weekend! Choose your favorite location, a park, beach, farm or a winery to set up a relaxing and healthfully indulgent feast. If you’re short on time, consider having a picnic in your yard. The point is to take the time to prepare enjoyable snacks and quiet time for yourself or with someone special. Be sure to lie down and take in the nature that surrounds you. It wouldn’t hurt to say a few kind things to the person or people with whom you may be sharing this picnic.

Enjoy this beautiful first weekend of a new season!

Create A Fall Experience

The weather is pretty perfect on the east coast so creating and planning a seasonal adventure or activity should be high on the priority list.

Make a list of the farms, farmer’s markets, craft fairs, wineries, breweries, flower farms, petting zoos, horseback riding, hiking or biking trails and beaches nearby to create a fun day outdoors. Try to create an adventure that you’ve never experienced before. You’ll be surprised at how many new activities are available near you and wonder why you haven’t made the time to create a new experience. Create a plan and enjoy the personal growth through a new adventure. Bringing family and or friends along can make it more memorable.
