Weekend Design & Wellness Project

This weekend, plan a dream vacation anywhere in the world. Then create a more realistic vacation or staycation including versions to your dream vacation adventures. For example, if you dream of visiting a European city, but you live on the east coast of the US, you could plan a road trip or book a 1 hour flight to Montreal, Canada. Old Montreal looks and feels like a quaint European city and is a heck of a lot closer than Europe. Another example is if you enjoy camping, but not the preparation involved then create a retreat in your own backyard. Set up tents, build a bonfire and throw up some twinkle lights for a backyard glamping trip. Whatever your dream vacation looks like, enjoy the planning process and stay present for those special moments whether alone or with loved ones.

This weekend attend a social event! Visit a local winery, live music, or go on a food tasting tour. If none of those interest you, then make a picnic of your favorite healthy snack and head to a local park or the closest beach. Spend time outside with friends or go alone and make some new friends.

May your weekend be filled with laughter, joy and new experiences!

Create an itinerary of your dream vacation, staycation or retreat. Block time for organic fun and unexpected adventure. Create a non-negotiable budget that you’re comfortable with a cushion for unforeseen or emergency expenses. This amount will vary based on the destination and mode of transportation. If the budget is tights consider day trips in your own city or state. Every state has something beautiful to offer and chances are that you have explored your entire state. It can be fun to be a local-ish tourist. Maybe dust off an old functioning camera and capture views in a new light. Keep a journal of each day’s adventures with a log of restaurants and favorite meals. This can be very helpful when you’re passing along recommendations to someone else. Finally, bring your wellness practices on your trip to stay present in each moment and to keep your body and mind aligned.

Enjoy where you are in this moment. Count your money no matter how much or how little you have. It’s yours. Forget the debt for now. Look around you, do you have food, a place to sleep, people you love, a pet and a window? Be still with what you have and where you are. This practice will cultivate gratitude and growth will take place naturally. Be patience and kind to yourself.

GROUNDING

Grounding is a practice of standing barefoot in the grass and imagining light entering through the top of your skull through your body and down past your feet into the ground. The light entering symbolizes a new beginning and pushes any negativity or pain into the earth. Standing in the sand can be a grounding experience especially with the flow of the ocean waves washing away any stress, frustration or grief that you carry around each day. Those emotions can become very heavy and interfere with your daily responsibilities if they are not released every once in a while. Water is very healing and comforting during rough times. This weekend try to place yourself near a body of water and definitely have those bare feet ready to release pent up emotions. Allow the lightness of the air to fill up your lungs while pushing down all of your troubles. Don’t worry, all of those emotions will pile back up on you soon enough so you will need to make this grounding thing part of your new cycle of releasing and resetting. Now, you will have a go-to stress reliever when you need it that can consist of you doing this while standing on your own lawn.

The next step to this process is writing or drawing right after your grounding experience. It’s important to capture this moment to see where you are in tuning into what your body needs.

Enjoy your beautiful and free weekend!

P.S. Remember when being “grounded” over the weekend was a bad thing…like the worst, life ruining thing EVER? Haaaa
